How Do Vegas Oddsmakers Make the Point Spread in Sports Gambling (Do they REALLY balance action?)

How do Vegas Oddsmakers make the point spread in sports gambling? Is it true that they produce a line to help balance action? The Prez sits down with Golden Nugget Race & Sports Book Executive Director Tony Miller to go over what goes behind creating the spread. Some of the topics Prez goes over with Tony include:

-How are the lines made in Vegas?
-Why are the spreads at most sportsbooks the same?
-Why are some teams inflated in regards to the spread?
-Which sports are the easiest to bet and make money on?
-How are straight bets, parlays and teasers broken down by action?
-NFL vs other sports in regards to betting action?
-How do sportsbooks make money?

  1. Awesome Card Breaks

Obviously a large bet can come in and throw the balance off but it doesn’t mean that’s not their goal. I wish he would have asked the guy what the scenario for a book would be. I bet in ideal world, they’d want it to be 50/50

Why do these guys talk so much it took too long to allow the oddsmaker to explain. A very simple concept. Power ratings , constantly watched

Rugby 7s is legit the most entertaining sport to watch. First got into it when I went to Fiji for my tv show. Watched 15hrs of rugby a day the 4 days before filming the show.

Great video. And thanks for doing the interview from a BETTOR's perspective. A lot of interviews with Bookmakers seem to be more about the Books and not about how the Bettors can use the info in their decisions. One video request though, can you do a video about in-game betting? The line swings seem to be huge in-game and would love to know how it's done – is it by computer algorithms or does one employee just follow the game and continually make changes to the numbers?

Hey Prez, I heard you mention an “if bet” can you explain what that is and why it provides more a true odds situation than a parlay?
