    The reason why Modric was overrun in the first game in Paris was because of the tactics, once again Ancelotti‘s fault. And Benzema should not have played in that game, he wasn’t fit. The reason why Modric was also ineffective in the first half of the second game in Madrid was once again due to tactics and formation. Everything changed was once Camavinga and Rodrygo came in for Kroos and Asensio. Kroos should have NEVER played in the second game cause he was not fit. Once again, Ancelotti’s fault. Come to think of it in games against teams like Liverpool, Manchester city, Barca and possibly any high energy, pressing team, Kroos is a liability. He becomes a luxury player. But in the end, the person responsible for the debacle against Barcelona is almost 100% Ancelotti himself.

    Gab was ready to die for Ancelotti. Truth is he cost Madrid. Yes Benzema was out but Barca have gone into Clasicos without Messi or Neymar in their MSN days and they still smashed Madrid. Carlo failed to adapt.

    I don't recall ever seeing a team defend in a 424, and Real did it a lot last with Kroos/Modric/Valverde defending as strikers. The constant shifts in press and positioning when actually in the 41212 meant they were lost at sea. But the 41212 didn't work at all like a 41212 bc the forward two are on the touchlines.

    Real Madrid defeats Barca, but Barca humiliates Real Madrid! The fact that Real Madrid has such a big history and heritage makes it even more damaging. Nobody humiliates Real Madrid the way Barca does and that's why Barca's style of play is the most dominant in world football.
