From a management and ops perspective I also think the original branch should have phoned straight to Head Office and have the senior management of William Hill deal with the punter directly and pay him the cash.

You can't have one chaps winnings wiping out floats of shops so nobody else can get their winnings! I'm also sure it's not wise to have such large cash reserves lying too 😂

The fact they don't ask for verification when someone throws them £1k in banknotes , but they do when he claims his winnings is pretty staggering. This is why I have a disdain for gambling companies – this isn't just a case of making sure the house always wins as much as it's a case of making sure the player never does.

It should be automatic to have background checks if someone turns up with say £500 or so of cash – I couldn't just go to my bank and withdraw that straight away.

    He gave them a tip?

There was this one time in Ladbrokes where I was playing the roulette with my mates and luckily the number we had £10 on came out back to back giving us almost a grand in profit, we was celebrating in the shop then the police turned up and told us to leave before we cashed our ticket, the workers had called them and told them that we were causing a nuisance and that we refused to leave the shop even though they didnt even ask us to leave 😂 we obviously said we wasnt leaving until we got our winnings and it was paid to us eventually after 1 hour

  7. @LostTouristOfficial

William Hill is getting boycotted by me and already shared this to a few others.

The area manager for Bristol wrote a letter to me,which was waiting for me in the shop, implying that if I wanted to use their shops I need to submit my tax returns for past 3 years. As I am being self employed, WTF?!
I don't give away any of my "business" info to any Bookies, first they should start to pay taxes in this country (they're ALL registered in Gibraltar if You didn't know that?!), instead of robbing people off, and destroying their lives.
No wonder why the richest woman in the UK is (Denise Coates) bookie.
I wonder if their tax affairs will ever be scrutinised by any regulatory body?!
    I won't hold my breath.

They take your money without checks, but want checks when you collect – the reasons is simple – the want your details but they don't want to pay out – as others have suggested here – Boycott William Hill shops.

William Hill has a license to operate because gamblers dont typically have the intelligence to appropriately report and sue. Simple as.

Honestly this will just discourage people from gambling with them or gambling at all and that's probably a good thing for consumers. Willingly ruining their own reputation is a very interesting way of going about business.

How does someone with only a day left in the u.k. and no u.k. bank account have a local mp? To complain

So, betting shops exploiting those with gambling addictions, manipulating winners private information to not pay out….
Police used as a private militia, not protecting innocent and vulnerable citizens but treating them like criminals despite no violations caused, only for being on “private property”.
    Corruption is rife!

First of all, if betting shops and casinos or any other corporation are classified private property in which they operate, then they should be removed from public spaces, like high streets and shopping centres where everyday public can’t walk onto ‘private property’ without openly knowing and being aware of such actions.
Secondly, I do wonder how the police would function if they lost tax revenue and become independent on public paid donations. As maybe there is a “few bad apples” amongst the bunch but we’re hearing more and more about how the police service fail us, act above the law or those who’ve committed offences, get off lightly compared to Joe Public.
