In just 19 days time, the National Hockey League shall be taking to the ice after its shortest off-season ever and dropping the puck on the 21/22 season. Before opening night, each team has to conduct their respective pre-season training camps, and while these camps will be predominantly filled with full-time NHLers and promising prospects, there will be a number of league veterans taking part on a Professional Try-out Contract.
Though the majority of players who sign a PTO don’t receive a full-time contract once pre-season is over, there have been many examples over the years of players who signed a PTO, earned a contract out of training camp and surpassed all expectations over the coming months.
So in today’s video, let’s take a look at the best examples shall we?

Lafleur was forced out by the Habs in 1984. They had switched to a more defensive game by then and Guy publicly cl;ashed with management. A trade with Buffalo for Gilbert Perrault fell through and Guy found himself more on the bench. Lafluer's party lifestyle caught up to him the 80's (car crash), as well as, major groin and knee injuries, Look at his stats and he would have topped 100 points in 80-81 and 81-82 had he not been injured.
Robin lehner🥲
Worth being in bed affect the method if you wiggle like a turd.
Sykora the Scorer! Will always love that guy! The A-Line speaks for itself. Good guy. Good player.
he was great that year, very impressive
Great vids. U should use advanced stats, it would make everything a lot more interesting
Scottie ups hall was pto’d twice by st louis and was successful both times
18:54 "Hey, happy Christmas Hoffman"
You put a lot of work into your videos clearly and yet you barely having anything, great work man!!
Great video brother !
Mason Raymond would have been re-signed by Vancouver had he not broken his neck. To me, that makes his bounce back season in Toronto that much more impressive. Man, that kid had wheels.
The 2nd round pick Mtl got from Chicago for Fleischmann turned out to be Alex Romanov
that Lafleur pic gave me an idea for a good video. How about the best bald hockey players?
Guy Lafleur had more hair in Quebec, than he did in the year before with the Rangers. 😛
That 2nd round pick that went along with Danault turned out to be Alex Romanov
EH-LO HOCKAY FAYNS
Hoffman's only kind of counts. He couldn't sign a contract with the Blues until the season started as they had to put players on LTIR to get that extra cap money. They were too much over the cap in the offseason to do so. Once those players were on LTIR, he was officially signed for the hand shake deal he signed to get the PTO.
Even though he didn't set the league on fire when he returned, Lafleur finished his career in the place he pretty much started it in, considering he played his junior hockey with the Quebec Remparts.
Video idea: What ever happened to: Ryan Clowe
