The Long-Term Effects of 'Live Betting'

Did you watch the Super Bowl? Since 2018, roughly 30 states have legalized sports betting, including 21 that allow it online. In the last 12 months, around one-in-five U.S. adults say they have personally bet money on sports in some way — and COVID-19 drove 64% of people to spend more time and money on online gambling. So, chances are if this topic doesn’t affect you, it is affecting someone you know. The legalization of sports betting has raised concerns about gambling addictions – and if sports fans are taking their “love of the game” too far by online gambling. Dr. Phil talks with Charles, a self-proclaimed gambling addict, who says he hasn’t gambled in two months but fears he could again. Dr. Phil also hears from Trell, a sports gambling influencer, and Sean Green, co-host of “The Sports Gambling Podcast,” on what they claim are “pros” of sports gambling. Then, Gary says he was a compulsive gambler from age 18-40 and now advocates against sports gambling. And, Natasha Schull, author of “Addiction by Design: Machine Gambling in Las Vegas,” weighs in. Don’t miss this passionate discussion about a topic that’s taking the world by storm. (21083)

Jonathan Rea isn’t normally one for a flutter but he might make an exception after his third successive World Superbikes title. He didn’t make the shortlist for BBC Sports Personality of the Year in either 2015 or 2016, despite grabbing the world crown. So will the judges include him this time round, now that he’s bagged his third successive title? We asked Betfair what the chances are. They rate him at 5/1 to be nominated and a long-shot at 200/1 to win the title. Rea? We’ll he thinks it’s worth a small punt.

Perfect example of pushing a narrative. I drink on days off (work comes first – I own a business). I gamble online (I subscribe to pros information but don't bet daily) yet I pay my employees on time, own my home, both my cars and nope – not even close to rich. However, you can enjoy gambling if you stay smart and within a budget. For addicts who can't it's unfortunate but not the majority. That's 💯

those addicts would have been addicted to gambling whether sports betting existed or not. the show had an agenda to make sports betting look bad. its way better than the money going to organized crime underground. they had a stupid narrative they wanted to push right from the start
