Can you name a weird draft selection?

I know it's kinda confusing but the IHL wasn't at a lower competitive level than the AHL (at least not in concept) and was an alternative farm league that some NHL teams used instead of the AHL. If memory serves there were also independent teams in the league that were comprised of former NHLers, failed prospects and international players. So IHL=AHL. I wouldn't be surprised if in actual practice one league was significantly more competitive than the other, but both acted as the highest level of minor league hockey. The ECHL would be on the next tier lower

i would hate to get drafted to winnipeg

  4. Jarrad Bruessel

Dude quit pausing every single few words and raising your voice on the last word like you are asking a question

Lmao calling a team out on drafting Sheifele and Blake Wheeler who was also awesome. Dumb. Sheifele was def considered a top 15 pick

  6. TEKDAD

Winnipeg 2.0 is Atlanta, no link with Phoenix. Wheeler was drafted by the coyotes to finally play in Boston.

I will never ever forget the analysts and fans reaction to The Seider pick…and the criticism and mockery of Yzerman taking him at 6.. And thats after all the great drafts he had with Tampa Bay, turning them into multiple cup winners..Yzerman is very thorough in his assessment of players..No one should ever underestimate his knowledge and work he puts in..15 years from now, when Seider may very well be embarking on the end of a HOF Career, we can look back at his pick at #6 and say…Look who got the last laugh..Just sooo happy Stevie Y came back home where he always belonged!

tyler boucher might end up like jason robertson people said he was not good enough for the nhl but now he a superstar

Who questions Yzerman and his picks, we (wings fans)knew he were picking Sieder. We have amazing scouts, look at Holmstrom, Zettiberg, Datsyk, Konstintinov, Drake, Klima, Federov etc etc. None of them first round.

We were the only team to send a scout to see Datsyk in his tiny Russian town.

Honestly, if your a GM at a draft and Stevey Y. picks a dude before you that you didn't even have on your watchlist, I'd start questioning my entire draft plan.

  11. Mark Miller

If you mean by 'competing' for the Norris that he winds up 2nd to Makar everytime, you'd be right. Seider will 'compete'.

  12. Dan Corrigan

Can you possibly hire a better narrator? Because you’re really really hard to listen to

  13. Dangle City

With Stevie Y’s track record it’s absolutely asinine to question anything he does, he the Midas of GMs

  14. Jason Schwartz

Boucher is lighting it up this season with 7 goals in 9 games. But, yeah, trade down!!!

  15. Cody Campbell

Did this dude just call Tampa the greatest dynasty in nhl history? They only won two in a row. 70s canadiens, 80s islanders, Gretzky’s oilers all had more

When you went to Yzerman I was confused b/c everything he touches turns to platinum gold lol

  17. Philly5Blunt

Boucher is having a really good year right now for the 67s

Since Winnipeg didn't have a 2nd rd pick they knew he wouldn't be available in the 3rd rd and they obviously didn't think there was a super star after the 7th pick. How would you know that Dougie Hamilton or TJ Miller would be that good, that's the only stars I see available for them. Wheeler was drafted by the Coyotes not Winnipeg.
1992 NHL 1st rd had 11 bust players in it, plus 6 Russians and 4 Czech were draft. So who would know which Russians would be busts?
