I dont care who wants to knock this but I am betting in 5 years time if your watching this in like 2021…..out of all the players picked in the first round….every pick but about 10 will be considered total busts…and there will be at least 5 players taken in round 2 that in 5 years will have had more success than at least 10 guys taken in round one…..I make this prediction because I been watching NBA drafts since the early 80's and I know that every year they build up so many of these young guys who was stars in college and then only usually the very best ever pan out…..by pan out I mean turn into the player that teams expect….and usually by pick 10 on down your looking at getting at best a player who will never be more than a role player….now many great players have been taken late 1st round but still…..the high majority of all drafts since 84 I have watched over the years….about 70% of the players taken after the 10th pick are out of the league before they even play out the contract they sign or at least out of the league after 3 years when the teams get out from under the guarenteed money…..there is always usually one or two talents who also have long careers from second round because they hustle and play good defense or something……but I say all this because I have to laugh at people getting all excited about guys getting picked in some of these picks especially later first round and while the players have potential and talent or they wouldnt be drafted to begin with if you watched them play in college or whereever last year you will see they have major holes in their games…..nothing more funy to me than hearing brodcasters talking up a college guard that averaged 18 points a game last year in college but cant dribble with his left hand and cant play defense….at best he is a spot up shooter in NBA not a star like in college…..but so called experts are paid by network to talk up every pick as if that team just got a stud to make their fans happy and keep people watching the NBA……I promise you that in 5 years all but about 15 to 18 players out of the 1st and 2nd round picks will be all but long forgotten…..and of those that will still be in league half of those will be nothing but role players in 5 years…..these kids come out of school or never go now days and most are not ready to play against the best in the world and only 1 in 5 that dont go to college ever come close to being the player scouts say they could be…they never develope in the NBA cause they wont get pampered like in college by a coach…they will be expected to grow up fast and learn fast….even Kobe while talented couldnt do shit but in spurts when he joined the league and had no jump shot at all..he had to work on his game …..James is the only one that ever was instant as billed except for MOses Malone going back into the 70's……..so anyway all I am saying is dont get so excited about some of these kids they wasnt even that good last year ok and dont have the skill set to be more than role players especially as you move past the lottery…..ignore the excitement and praise by the broadcasters they are paid to brag on them

When you think about it, there were warning signs about Ben Simmons. His attitude was notorious, and he couldn’t lead LSU to a remotely successful season. Those were two personality issues that we knew about at the time of the draft.

In terms of his play…what did he really do? What was he? Yes he could score inside really well. But he’s not a “big man” in basketball terms. He could pass, but he only averaged 4.8 assists per game, he wasn’t absolutely dealing out there, and to warrant playing point guard you need to be really really good at that. He was a good defender to be sure but nobody regarded him as great, and he was more of a perimeter-oriented defender, more likely to get a steal than a block, which is bad if you wanna put him at the 1 on offense and have him guard the 4 on defense. He’s just too bizarre of a player in a bad way, not in a unicorn way. And then you add the personality issues on top of that? I would pass

I named my son Jaylen. We called him JB!! In a redraft JB should be the number one overall. Celtics also won the championship this year!!
