    Late to the party but this is Type 1/A obstruction by the defense. Fielder was blocking the base path without possession of the ball. This should result in an immediate dead ball and the runner awarded home.

    No. Runners establish their own baselines, which is a direct line from the runner’s starting point to the base/home plate and not necessarily the baseline itself. Also, he made an “evasive” move so to speak PRIOR to a tag attempt. So there was no “outside the baseline” violation prior to the tag attempt. By the time the tag attempt was made he was clear.

    That said, good luck explaining to an irate coach.
