INSTANT REACTION: Patriots select QB Drake Maye with the third overall pick in 2024 NFL Draft

Tom E. Curran, Albert Breer and former Patriots QB Brian Hoyer join Tom Giles to offer instant reaction and analysis to the Patriots’ selection of QB Drake Maye third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Then, Mike Felger and Michael Holley welcome in former Patriot Ted Johnson to share their reaction and debate whether it was the right move for New England. The quarterback is the highest-drafted player by New England since the team selected QB Drew Bledsoe first overall in 1993.

ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky tells Rich Eisen why Drake Maye won’t be a Day One starter for New England if the Patriots draft the UNC QB #3 overall.

  1. @zmyGe

Brady should come back and play for the pats for 1 season. And have maye learn.

  2. @jacobhughes9010

If Drake transferred to Alabama before last season how you think he would of looked? Amazing.

  3. @echoe28

"NFL Draft Special" is a complete joke. Drake Maye is the number 1 player in the draft, watch it happen. OROY

  4. @boschlosser10

Needs to sit all year behind Bresset.. they also need Fischer OT ND and Walker WR NC maye teammate but no WR.. so he shouldn’t play right away

  5. @aem870

Michael Holley didn't even get the age of the players right. He is not making sense.

  6. @TheChef420

I'm glad the Patriots didn't draft a 35-year-old guy who was most likely going into retiring in just a few years cuz he's already 35

  7. @aaronl8609

They better take Adonai Mitchell or McConhey.
This guy was the right choice by far.
    Penix? Lmao
    Clowns right here

  8. @williamveasey6801

I love the Curran bull crap made up stories. He claims the Pats and Chargers were discussing a trade involving Herbert for the Pats number 3 pick.😂😂😂😂😂😂

  9. @johnboivt

We just drafted Zac Wilson with uglier sisters.

  10. @nunyabusiness8527

Mac Jones was our Sam Darnold, Maye's our Zach Wilson. None of them are bad quarterbacks. They're just being set up to fail. This formula, the NFL seems to like of picking your quarterback and then building the team around him never works and yet they keep doing it.What's that definition of insanity again? Oh yeah. A third round quarterback with an elite receiver. Will suck a hell of a lot less than a first rounder without an elite receiver.

  11. @alexanderoubre1959

Terrible pick. Every receiver was left on the board. This kid is going to ruin this franchise (even more). Look at the college tape Mac jones is a far superior prospect and even played well his first year. What about the roster or organization has drastically changed that now they’re all of a sudden built to support a young qb? Especially one that’s even more flawed than Mac… better yet… they picked this kid at 3! He’s got good height and weight, everything else is below average. His production was below average, and now he doesn’t even know that he’s average because you’ve passed him the keys to your franchise and he’s unlikely to ever be ready. Terrible pick from a terrible soon to be GM backed by a terrible hire in head coach.

  12. @RindgeRifle

Currans analysis on if a QB going 3rd overall is going to be good is whether he has a twitter or not. What an absurd talking point. Jesus can’t believe this dude gets paid for these boomer takes

  13. @Chorbus

    Trash pick.
So fucking mad they passed on MHJ

  14. @DonThaGoat94

Very hopeful for the future. Praying we develop him the right way

  15. @PYahWeh

Dude with the glasses is such a know-it-all. Even if he DOES know what he’s talking about he kept interrupting the other analysts and not just negating their points (this IS a debate-style sports show) but completely disregarding them just because it doesn’t make sense to “him”.

  16. @PYahWeh

The Mayo-Maye combo will serving elite knuckle sandwiches to the NFL for years to come!🔥🔥

  17. @SD-zx1uh

Really like Brian Hoyer on the panel, also like him more than Ted, easier to listen to/more relatable/QB position has really great insight

  18. @rushi32400

anyone who thinks he was the wrong pick is hilarious. he’s gonna be good

  19. @Mr.Chatman5486

    Ted is smoking Crack!

  20. @thesaintforever257

I'll be honest, the only game I've ever watched of Maye was the last few minutes if unc vs VA.

So I honestly don't know but, I remember that Mac Jones pick vs the colts

  21. @aidanorsino1

Come on Dan – say to the Pats , trade down , draft Joe Alt and find a way to get Bo Nix

  22. @AssfaceOmega

You’re the last person who should be talking about footwork, my guy.

  23. @rayjoseph3980

It sucks JJ got this crazy boost. All year it was ehh he’s blah it’s just his team !
BS. The pats coulda got Marvin & JJ in the 2nd or trade back up where he was in the public eye before all this was PENNIX OVER HIM. Now where’s penix ? lol. You want those 2 specifically. The QB. Like Brady says. A Michigan QB plays in front of 100 thousand people in COLD WEATHER. Marvin Harrison was in Ohio. COLD. All these athletes scared of it. Like Deions kid. Guy goes to Colorado !!!! But says his son needs a dome in the nfl.

  24. @Someone-to1sb

I think the team is not ready for a freshman QB. there is too much to build to dump in a young guys and expect him to perform. They should take Harrison and grab someone like Penix of Raddler in the second round. Tannehill is still out there. They should consider 3 QB's for this 2024 season. Two veterans to run the team and teach the new guy.

  25. @jeremykeyes2018

I find it funny a guy is criticizing someone’s foot work when he himself didn’t know where the back of the end zone was. Why do we listen to this guy? He talks like he was an all pro he was a backup his ENTIRE career 🤣🤣🤣

  26. @jirachi8297

The whole sit the qb is a waste pick move. Might as well. Draft mhj. Unfortunately those qbs that u mentioned do have a legit veteran starter for the rookie qbs to sit. Mahomes had Alex Smith. Trey had dak. And we don't have that type of calibur veteran qb to sit. Jacoby is the reason the rookie qb sits. Or not. If Jacoby does bad he will get boo off. Just like Mac and forces the rookie qb to play. There goes ur sit a qb play. We again might as well draft mhj and start em. No reason to draft a qb to sit and waste it. Cuz they sitting.

  27. @GeorgeVreelandHill

JJ will be the best QB of this draft. Write it down.

  28. @fortyyearfitness

Do drakes feet step out of the back end zone?

  29. @johnhaversack1634

Patriots will trade back select a guard/longsnapper/kicker with their picks for number 3.

  30. @dathorndike4908

    take JJ McCarthy!

  31. @user-mw4fp9zz2x

Dan O was a 12 year NFL QB drafted out of the 6th round. All you keyboard and couch warriors out there ripping him is laughable! Go back to your day job and let an actual NFL QB do some analysis

  32. @Khris-wt7br

Danny O… 2 whole wins his entire NFL career… obviously a QB expert, by todays NFL standard

  33. @Craighomoffman

Josh Allen was worst and so was Patrick Mahomes. Of course they all have to get better and Bears would be stupid to pass on Drake Maye. Maye can sit a year. This will give them a 22 year old QB who’s ready to roll next year. He’s not junk like Love who needed 4 years. JJ is QB2 and he’s young and should sit as well. Caleb can be another hometown failure in DC. Jayden will be racing pigeons, fighting on X with former coaches, that didn’t protect his skinny arse.

  34. @JoeWhite42

    DRAFT JOE MILTON!!!

  35. @eddierubio2796

Yes. We and all GM's in the NFL need listen to and take the advice of the 9 time superbowl champ and hall of famer Dan Orlovsky. NOT

  36. @justincathcart1978

From the same guy who told us Mac was special….

  37. @sirtrucks-a-lot4478

Dan said he wouldn't out Penix over Mccarthy nor Maye, wtf dude smokin on 😂😂

  38. @zgoblue

Caleb the most talented, but JJ is the most NFL QB in this draft. Purdy shows that you don't need pure physical talent to win in the league. You need great decision making, accurate throws, and strong leadership. JJ has all of those in spades.

  39. @jamesfontes9292

Its frustrating bur Patriots have to wait until the other 2 teams pick. Simple as that

  40. @hueyhoopin

One month ago he said maye should go #1 overall
