The aim of a Place bet is to select a horse to be placed in the race, a good bet when you fancy a horse but you think it is unlikely to win
Place betting is available on all races with 5 or more runners. However, the number of places that the Tote pays depends on the number of runners:

5-7 2 Places – 1st or 2nd
8-15 3 Places – 1st, 2nd or 3rd
16+ Handicap Races 4 Places – 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th
