Ready to roll the dice and play craps? In this video, our gambling expert explains how to make a free odds bet.
Hi guys. I just wanted to go over Free Odds bet in craps. One of the great parts about craps is that is has this one bet, where is no house advantage whatsoever. If you’ve got a pass line bet of , depending on the casino, you can go put as free odd against whatever number you’re rolling.
Say we’re out on a point here, we’re on a point of 4, and you have a pass line bet of , you’re allowed to take free odds of . What it is, is you put money behind the line here, and why you’re gonna want to do that, is because, there is absolutely no house advantage to that bet whatsoever. As mentioned in earlier videos, the pass line, when the 4 comes up, you get paid even money. But what if I told you, that if the 4 were to come out, this gets paid 1 to 1? What if I told you I could pay you 2 to 1 back there, and you could put more money on there? That is the free odds bet in craps.
And how it works is, depending on the casino, sometimes you can do just twice your original bet, sometimes up to 5 times you original bet. It really depends on where you’re playing. But the pass line will get paid even money, but what happens in the back here, gets paid what are known as ‘true odds.’ And true odds is, basically the whole foundation for like, all the math and numbers in craps. So, there are 36 combinations of the dice. There are 6 ways that a 7 could come out. And you could pair that to the 5 ways that a 6 and an 8 can come out, because for a 6 you have 1-5, 2-4, 3-3, 4-2, alright? And the 5 and the 9 can come up 4 different ways. 4 and the 10 can come up 3 different ways.
So, what happens here is that you put your free odds here and that gets paid its true odds, where, 4 can come out 3 ways, a 6 can come out 6 ways, so, 3 ways you can win, 6 ways you can loss. That’s 2 to 1. So, you would get paid 2 to 1 there on the bet. And then this would get paid even money as well.
So, the way that odds bet works, if you’re out on a 6 and 8 – You have a flat bet, and then you have a odds bet. Then the 6 comes up, you get paid even money, it gets paid 6 to 5. So 20 would pay 24. If we’re out on a 5 or a 9, you know, the odds for both are the exact same. And you have bet, then a 5, if we’re out a 5, 5 comes up, this gets paid even money, this gets paid 3 to 2, because there are 4 ways that you can with, with a 5 or 9, 6 ways you can lose with 7. And then as I mentioned already, with a 4 or 10, with a free odds bet. It would be 1 to 1, and then 2 to 1.
It’s always a good idea to play the odds, because when you play the odds, the houses advantage overall, since you have more money out, actually decreases, the more you can put up, the better it is for you. Some casinos, they allow you to go 2 times your bet. Some got 5 times, There’s some places, especially in Las Vegas, where you can go 10 times your original bet, up to 100 times your original bet. If you can afford it, do it, because the math is actually in your favor that way. And that is the free odds bet in craps.

Many thanks, I been tryin to find out about "how to read betting lines basketball" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of – Dondiviar Tiylena Booster – (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my co-worker got amazing success with it.
why would I put more on a losing bet here (4) .. I would do this on 'don't pass' any day.
I have spent months studying how to win sports bets and found a fantastic website at Magic matcher tactic (google it if you're interested)
Thanks for the Video! Excuse me for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you heard about – Riddleagan Winning Streak Remedy (just google it)? It is a great exclusive product for learning some amazing NBA and NHL betting tips without the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my cooworker finally got cool success with it.
Niceeе
He didn't explain how you are to win here though, which I think is where the dislikes are coming from.
If you bet the pass line, lets say $5, then you need a 7 or 11 on the first roll to win, a 2, 3 or 12 is a loss on the first roll, and anything else is a "Point". The point is basically an endless playoff match between that number and 7. The person rolling the die must roll that first number (4,5,6,8,9, or 10), before a 7 to win, assuming he didn't already roll a 2,3,7,11 or 12 on the first roll to already end the game. Any other number rolled during the play off that isn't a 7 or the "point" is basically a wash, a no bet, no action roll. In this case, you simply roll again.
Now with the "True odds" that is mentioned here in the video, it's explained rather bad, but it's basically a side bet with the house of the "Point" being rolled before a 7 in the play off round (after the first roll happened). If a a seven is rolled in the playoffs, this bet will lose, but if the "point" is rolled first, you will get paid True Odds based on the unlikelyhood of it happening, with no house cut. This means that naturally you get paid more money betting on the 4 or the 10, since those are less likely to come up, and a little less on the 6 or 8, since those are more likely. Please ask for help if you are still confused. I can help out.

For new visitors to this video, at 2:04, I'm pretty sure he meant to say "the 7 can come out 6 ways" (not the 6).
I've always wondered about the math behind the odds bet. thanks man. great vid
Thanks, very clear use of making the free odds bet!
It reduces the house advantage on you passline bet alone but, the passline bet is still there so the house advantage never goes away
I'm a craps dealer so I know a little about the math involved with craps.
In craps you never have an advantage no matter the multiple of odds. This might be a lie propagated by the casinos offering this rule…I'm not sure. Even with 100X odds the casino advantage is .021%. The money the casino makes in the long run is from the pass line bet only.
If you bet $5 on the pass line and $500 on the odds, the casino will expect to win 10.6 cents per decision. This means that when you make a point of 4, instead of paying out $1010 to your $505 bet they only pay you $1005. Believe me, casinos will never offer a game where they will lose in the long run. They have to pay their employees just like everyone else.
My advice to anyone just learning how to play craps: find a low minimum table and play max odds. (The Jokers Wild in Henderson, NV – just outside Vegas – offers $1 minimum with 10X odds and is probably one of the best tables in the US to my knowledge). Craps is a very confusing game for the beginner, but it is the best bet in the casino for the average person.
does the longer you play at the table translate into the house taking a cut ? like a rake ? example; if I'm playing 10$ on a 6 or 8 with $20 odds, ( totals $64 in total winnings counting your original bet) why is it that online free sites sometimes have a $63.31 winning total ?
"Free Odds" that can lose, doesn't necessarily apply to the name. TRUE ODDS is the term that describes this bet. And it does reduce the house edge the more your able to place as odds. Generally speaking strip odds or Vegas odds is 3x-4x-5x depending on the point. There are extreme examples like Casino Royale across from the Mirage and next to Harrah's in Vegas that have 100x odds on all points. I have only seen one person playing this way ever but it does mean that you should never play more than table min on pass line bet until you overcome the $300 odds bet as table min is $3. This will maximize the player provided advantage of your odds limits and this decreasing the overall house edge of your bet to under 1% in most cases.
Right… 6 comes out 5 ways. I meant to say that SEVEN comes out six ways. Thanks for pointing that out.. sorry y'all. 🙂
Your odds of winning don't change, just your the way it pays you.

So which mean we get to double back @.@?
