You know, the recruiting process these days is really different. It used to be where you get recruited as a junior going into your senior year. That’s no longer the case. The recruiting process starts even when you’re 6th, 7th, 8th grade, when coaches can identify you as a prospect that they may want to follow.

Okay? So understand that it starts really, really early. That as soon as you can get video, as soon as you can get your 40 time, and vertical and shuttle, and any kind of grades, and your height and weight, and you start to look like a prospect, or you feel you’re a prospect, get that information to college coaches.

The idea that there’s a recruiting period now, other than what the NCAA sets up for those college coaches, and that’s important too. Know what the rules
are that the college coaches have to abide by. There’s a guide for the
college bound student athlete that you should really get. That will help
you understand when coaches can call you, when they can write to you,
when they can come visit you. But as you, as a prospect, know that you’re
being evaluated every day in everything that you do, starting back in
7th grade.

Start early. Prepare yourself, and you know what? You’re not just preparing yourself just to go to college. You’re preparing yourself for the rest of your life. Right? So when you’re preparing yourself as a person, as a student, and as an athlete, know that it starts now.
