IDK man, 85% of college games are pretty much unwatchable as it is. At least with an NFL style two conference big league, we get competitive matchups a LOT more often.
College football is awful. Remember good times of youth. Now everything's on ESPN. To watch need cable. It's all about the money. I'm out of money, and just don't care anymore. The backlash is coming.
Just shift your attention to FCS schools …. its really fun without all the Portal and NiL nonsense . Hope ESPN doesn't ruin it too.
Profit margins have destroyed sports, both professional and collegiate.
So well stated! If they're wanting something similar to the NFL… just watch the NFL.
ESPN and Disney ruin everything
College football died when the College Playoffs made bowl games irrelevant to TV and the average fan. This is just the corpse coming back to life as the waking dead. But the real question is who will care about minor league football, when there is pro football to watch. There is some question in my mind whether the students in the colleges in question will even bother watching the teams that bear that schools name, as it will be obvious to anyone intelligent enough to be in college that the teams are completely disconnected from the schools they supposedly represent?
I've never seen this many clips of Washington State fans in my life. I do think we'll end up with 2 18-20 team leagues though with a playoff similar to the NFL model. I do feel kinda bad for the teams who are going to be left out, but in reality they only probably make up about 10% of the college football fan base. Teams like Ohio State or Alabama probably have 20x the following as teams like Iowa State. There isn't really a balance of power in college football and there never has been. I think there have only been like 24 teams that have won national championships in the AP poll era(since 1936), so it's always been a top heavy sport. It doesn't really make sense to me anyways to have programs like Middle Tennessee State and Alabama in the same division of football – they will never be comparable.
Everything is straight greed and destroys everything
ESPN didn’t ruined college football money did.
I can't remember when Arkansas was relevant in football I think my Buckeyes beat them in a bowl game back when they had a world-beater quarterback haha
I do think Herschel Walker is a great guy
The SEC Conference only has one team in it that's been relevant for the last 10 years last couple years Georgia has made a name but they're not really that great One National Championship season and they think they own the world
The Big Ten Network will cover all the Pac-12 teams traveling East to play in the Big Ten I promise you that they will do all sports
The only time I watch ESPN is if my Buckeyes happened to be playing on there other than that I don't even watch College GameDay anymore too much talk too much rah rah
of course, they did lolo…..they are not alone either. Money is everything to the networks and we are the fools that continue to watch. The college game that we knew is gone forever. NIL has changed a lot as well. no more tradition in the game. Get used to it or don't watch.
I lost interest in football when it was discovered that most, if not all of the players, will develop brain damage.
So I've shifted to women's volleyball and soccer. A lot lower $$ involved.
And I just can't bring myself to care about much of it.
It's actually amazing there making the big power teams have to only play each other because nobody watches the games when bama plays alabama state or when osu plays toledo nobody watches it fails right there they are to powerful if you look the last 60 years one of the power five schools was the champion and there never has been a champion of any of the weaker conference teams it need broke down and I think all teams deserve a chance to play for the championship if they win there conference
Big 12 sucked never add good team just kept losing good ones until the best had enough and left.
The FBS should only allow fully committed conference teams into the playoffs, then we see how important Irish independence is. No disrespect to loyal Irish fans but I'm tired of the NCAA bending over backwards for them (allowing their different sports to align to different conferences then also allowing FB to remain independent…ridiculous).
ESPN has ruined college football. I hope they and their parent company go broke.
It's all about the money as usual with anything related to religion. ND should have been given the decision years ago to join a conference or only play non-conference teams. As usual with the religious they pass around the basket then keep most of the takings for themselves.
Football will be so boring. We'll see teams that have already played, play again in a "tournament' who's outcome has already been determined. CF is now on par with professional wrestling. "Elite' means big and well marketed. It assumes that the teams that are determined to be 'elite' in the moment are the only ones that can ever be 'elite'. When's the last time Nebraska was relevant? Or Miami? Or Florida State? But they're 'elite'! The small school should file an anti-trust law suit for being locked out.
Not all other ND sports are in the ACC. Notre Dame is in Big Ten hocikey. I know that's not big but when the media states ND has all of their other sports in the ACC they're being lazy.
ND is in control of realignment. B10 seems to be a good fit, but it too crowded and ND will give up too much control. Join the B12 and bring in Clemson Florida State Oregon Washington Utah and possibly Az and Az State. Dictate the TV deal, maintain TV rights and take a bigger share of the pie if needed. This approach will dilute the power of the other two conferences and make it the big 3.
North Carolina is geographically and network-wise perfect for the SEC. It's located in the southeast, and it has access to the Charlotte and Raleigh markets. I think it is more attractive to the SEC than a lot of people understand.
The ONLY logical place for Notre Dame to go now is the Big Ten. That would allow them to stay elite with the big boys.
Paul is wrong. Texas and Oklahoma is still bigger. They are the ones that started all of this madness to begin with. Just because it was a year ago doesn't mean it doesn't matter as much.
Notre Dame has always seen themselves as "special" and "above" joining any conference for football… but with these changes that are now taking place, they might be left out to dry, at least in terms of getting teams from the "Power 2" conferences on the schedule. I'm sure ND is still an attractive non-conference game for the Power 2 schools though, so who knows.
This guy doesn’t know anything about notre dame Brian Kelly wasn’t our best coach, It was Lou Holtz.
The ACC will be fine.
Paul Finebaum has been against the ACC and has always been for SEC. I think, it's more of a hope than anything.
Smug SEC fans don't seem to get this…but THEY should seeking Oregon and Washington. This isn't about whether you think they're good enough. It's about securing markets! It's a war between the Big10 and SEC and the SEC needs to figure that out sooner rather than later.
I want to see ND in the big 10
My fears are becoming reality. College football as we know it is a dead man walking. Hello NFL lite.
ND has the weakest schedule every year they need to join Big 10 with USC
Joining the Big Ten makes the most sense.
The sooner the better.
More people care about big 12 football then pac 12 football but okay Scot Van Puke
I know it's not the same but when there are discussions like this around Notre Dame, I wonder how many college football and basketball analysts are aware that Notre Dame's hockey team plays in the Big Ten…
