While Ive had my wonders as to why the Habs selected Reinbacher, after reading some articles and watching some videos on both Easton Cowan and David Reinbacher, my opinion has changed. Easton Cowan had a really slow beginning to his latest season but thrived in the last half. Not only that but he was above a point per game in the playoffs. He has great offensive ability, a hard worker for pucks, great at battling, has a solid and precise long range and one timer shots in front of the net. Reinbacher, Elite Prospects refer to Reinbacher has the potential to be a more Two-Way minded Seider. I think with a bit of development, Reinbacher will thrive with the Habs and their development system.
Neither Simashev nor Michkov have any guarantee to debut in the next three years.
Why anyone would pick them in the first round is ridiculous, especially when the FLYERS had Fedotov and he's not playing with them after clearing military duty.
Honestly, it's weird when people seem to think picking the best guy available is always the best choice.
Fun fact: the Canadiens and the Coyotes have TONS of good young forwards that aren't playing with them yet.

I know you understand WHY teams are willing to wait on these Russians, so maybe let's apply that to the guys who really just need strength and conditioning.
The benefit of taking, say Reinbacher, is he gets slotted into the Canadiens system and becomes a player they need him to be.
Like, you say Bedard is going to define the Blackhawks, but there have been just as many busts as breakouts at #1, and even Ray Ferraro (who wasn't a great NHLer) ran the WHL and with better numbers.
The next three years is where these picks will actually show what fruit they're producing.
And no, the Blackhawks won't be back in the playoffs this year.
Even McDavid took like half a decade enduring some truly terrible seasons.

The Carlsson pick over Fantilli was confusing to me as Carlsson may not transition to the smaller ice and physicality that well whereas Fantilli has shown he can handle it quite well!
