MicroMike gives his Detroit Lions 2021 NFL Draft grades for all the draft picks in 2021.
Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes has his first draft class in the books. Much like his predecessor, he decided to put his stamp on the roster by going with a franchise offensive tackle to build upon. It worked out pretty well with Bob Quinn drafting Taylor Decker, but it will be the rest of the draft where Holmes will need to distinguish himself from the previous regime.
On Day 2, Holmes targeted the defensive line with a couple of surprising, but value-based picks. Detroit has struggled along the defensive interior for years, and Holmes is banking on Levi Onwuzurike and Alim McNeill changing that in a hurry. Though many questioned the back-to-back selections at defensive tackle given the many needs elsewhere, the Lions made up for it on Day 3.
Holmes got aggressive, trading a 2022 fourth-round pick along with their fifth-round selection this year to ensure back-to-back picks at the top of the fourth round. With those selections, pressing needs at wide receiver and linebacker were filled with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Derrick Barnes, respectively.
Here’s a look at the Detroit Lions’ 2021 NFL Draft class. How do you think they did?
Round 1, Pick 7 — OT Penei Sewell
Round 2, Pick 9 (41) — DT Levi Onwuzurike
Round 3, Pick 8 (72) — DT Alim McNeill
Round 3, Pick 38 (101) — CB Ifeatu Melifonwu
Round 4, Pick 7 (112) — WR Amon-Ra St. Brown
Round 4, Pick 8 (113) — LB Derrick Barnes
Round 7, Pick 30 (257) — RB Jermar Jefferson

What grade do you give the Lions for this draft? Comment below (A,B,C,D,F)
No.1 pick on offensive line looks good . A good way to build a team .I think it will pay off later
It's nice that this guy is a lions fan but it is also the down fall of this program. The only thing he got right is the first pick. Everyone else the Lions pick were picked at the place of their value. None are that, "oh my God, I can't believe he's still available.
I think the Lion's next move should be to draft JT Daniels at QB and Bru McCoy at WR, whenever they inevitably enter the draft. Along with St. Brown, those guys have a TON of chemistry because they have been playing together since high school as well as for a short time in college (JT Daniels transferred to Georgia after his sophomore year because of an injury, but McCoy and St. Brown still were playing for USC).
I keep forgetting there's 17 games now. They'll go 4-13 and 4th place in the Division.
From a long time Cleveland browns fan and resident, the lions are on the right track.
Just looking at the Lions roster a group that if the coaching is in place this team could be quite competitive from the start and is no longer a pushover team especially if Goff get going early. Edit: Jemar Jefferson was a steal of a pick in the 7th round should have gone way earlier…
Yes grade A
D. The Detroit Lions always finish at the bottom of the division and they always get the best chance to upgrade and they always fail. Be the best of 4 teams for the 1st time in 30 years to get a C draft grade.
Alim McNeil didn't go to South Carolina. How are you going to let that slip passed the editing process on a video about draft picks?
In order to get top level free agent qb's to look at Detroit, the o line needed to be solidified. Done! Next, Detroit worked on the defense in order to improve it. Done! Grade A. Next up, see how the draft picks and udfa pan out.

It was nice seeing the Lions make picks that actually helps them build, not just go for the "best" player available… which usually ends up being a WR or TE. We've destroyed too many great talents by not building a team from the foundation.
🏆DETROIT LIONS🏆🏈
Y, a solid A all around. Great value all around. I especially loved the ARSB pick cuz I had him going in the 2nd.
I think you're even sleeping a bit on Alim McNeil's talents. Dude had offers to Bama and other power programs but decided to stay home. Even though he's definitely a wide-bodied run-stuffer, he does have plenty of power and a surprising amount of speed when rushing the power. The only pick I didn't get and immediately love was the Jermar Jefferson pick, simply cuz I thought he wouldn't contribute much. Now that Kerryon is gone, I can see his path to contributing much more clearly. I don't think he'll ever be as good as Kerryon but, with Swift & Williams taking starting snaps, I don't think he needs to be.
Very exciting draft all around.

Yo, Alim McNeill went to NC State. Next… Cmon son
Y for me but it seems the Lions can't win if they stand pat well their not aggressive if their aggressive then they shouldn't be but the Lions get a hard concrete A+ overall with this draft
