Not much parity but there were some bad*ss football programs at the top of the food chain during the 70s, 1973 being the pinnacle. In the final regular season poll, the top six schools were unbeaten:
Alabama (11–0),
Oklahoma (10–0–1),
Notre Dame (10–0),
Ohio State (9–0–1),
Michigan (10–0–1),
Penn State (11–0). USC(9-1-1)was#7 with a loss to ND and a tie with OU ,Texas(8-2) was#8 including a loss to OU and Nebraska(8-2-1) was #12 also losing to OU. These are the bluebloods here.

One of my favorite things back in the 70's was to watch Bill Flemming's Sunday morning college football highlights show. It was the only way to see footage of college teams that were never on one of the major networks. Matchups like Kansas vs. Iowa State, or Indiana vs. Northwestern.

At 7:15, BIll says Jim Plunkett's record for total offense may never be broken. Oops. John Elway did it in 1982, and Plunkett now ranks 42nd on that list.

1970's greatest decade for both sports and movies.
UofM though very frustrating 72,73,74 went 32-2-1 no bowl games and lost every bowl they were in Rose 71,76,77,78, Gator bowl 79.
USC had great teams Pitt and Nebraska as well. Today cfb is strictly Alabama Clemson Ohio St maybe Oklahoma everyone else is irrelevant.

In the 70s only 1 team from the Big10 and Pac8 could go to a bowl game and that was the Rose Bowl. No bowl games for teams that finished 2nd 3rd and 4th. Also unlimited scholarships teams such as Notre Dame,USC,Alabama,Texas, OhioSt,Michigan,PennSt,Oklahoma, and Nebraska would hoard as many recruits as possible as many as 150 players at times.

ANY Sooners fan whos cries about bad refs should go back to 14:30 on this video. IN ANY OTHER UNIVERSE that catch WOULD BE A TOUCHDOWN .Especially if that game were in Norman and an OU player was the receiver. OSU got CHEATED out of 6 points. Sooo .. a few plays Sanders ran it RIGHT UP OU's BACKSIDE for a TD,

you can see OU coach lincoln riley so preoccupied with USC job. OU team was distracted/not focused, OU team looked disheveled not determined…OSU looked ready, exact, focused. Some homer calls came our way, that's how it goes when high stakes are played at your stadium. that's not front page news! Everything i said against OU is everything that happened to OSU against Baylor in Big XII Championship Game

This team will be a forgettable they won there last game against OU THATS IT 11-3 sad. Terrible players and coaches that either get hurt Easly or can’t coach worry a shit. Spencer sanders is a joke!!! Proud of the defense. But the offense is so worthless you just want to forget the 4 downs they get stuffed and choked away a big 12 title!!!!

watch the play starting at 1:33:05… pass to Green over the middle and appears to get the first down. ref spots the ball a yard back and OSU doesn't get the first down and settles for a FG attempt (which they missed). No one questioned the ball spot.

I agree with the announcers that college refs let corners and other defenders actually cover the defender. Despite the slight push off by the Sooner TE 41:00 in, no defensive PI was called because the throw by Williams was good enough the receiver was going to catch it anyway. Using common and situational sense is something NFL regs are capable of doing.
