Author David Grann tells the story of an 18th-century British warship that wrecked along the coast of Patagonia. The survivors sailed thousands of miles to safety, and later faced charges of mutiny. His new book is The Wager.

I just hope if they do make a film of the book that there aren't American accents…
I would like to read this but I heard it's woke. 😂
I would say Mr. Grann is pretty brave to spend a day with the NY City sand hogs! A great writer and researcher.
Finished it today. I served on DDG 84 USS Bulkeley. She was named after a WWII junior officer, aJohn Bulkeley, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for getting MacArthur out of the Philippines. He became Admiral John Bulkeley ! I wonder if the admiral were kin or decended from the command-minded Gunner from the early Eighteenth Century.
terry gross retire, give this airtime to someone new
Read this book…DO Not listen to the audiobook version…the narrator or reader does not read the book like you would do…instead…he acts it out…very annoying….when the author writes the words someone is speaking the narrator will change his voice to imitate how that person is speaking…if he is yelling…the narrator yells out the words…if he whispers…so the narrator whispers. This may work with fiction literature…but…never works with non-fiction. It destroys the credibility of the entire work. Most of us are used to reading in a monotone in a quiet location. Your neighbors will hear this man yelling….!!
I'm sure it's been observed already that Patrick O'Brian did his usual slam-dunk job on this tale in his novel "The Unknown Shore".
