I always felt bad for Darko. Not the money, as who wouldn't want tens of millions. But nothing is worse than self loathing no matter how rich you are. Although telling Doc Rivers "save me the heroic UBUNTU speeches" is epic and would get him cancelled today
darko definitely could of been a 20/10 2-3 blocks player. just didn't care about the nba like that.
I think he wasn't that bad. It just makes it worse because he was picked high in such a loaded draft.
In my opinion, from what I heard from this, he wasn't a bust.
I saw how Darko played in Serbia. The way he was made to play in the NBA was not suited for him at all. He should have been used more as a tall small forward who could fill in the gaps in plays rather than as a traditional center who dominates with his back to the basket. Didn't help that his bitterness and apathy really rubbed off on his coaches and teammates. At least he's happy now and using his likeness towards bigger better things.

Pistons never should’ve drafted Darko. Sitting on the bench killed his confidence and his will to compete.
Pronouncing is awful
I sat in The Palace and watched Wacko. He was freaking horrible, slow and glued to floor and it was obvious he didn’t want to be there. Wacko would just sit on bench and watch the clock. Dumars would sit up in club seating outside of suites and stare at Wacko. He was a bust after one season and should have been driven to airport and flown home. When you are 7’ plus averaging 8 points ain’t great and for his blocks, they were mostly against third string players. Just because he was from Serbia didn’t make him a great player. Bye Wacko!

US media should stop making narratives on players
its not that he's a bad player
its about getting the right fit between a players talent/basketball IQ and how the team/org/coaches want to utilize him to fulfill his potential that would reap benefits for the team
I don't blame Darko. I blame the Pistons for taking him instead of Melo. Still an all time bonehead pick.

Man, those NBA "analysts" were smoking crack if they thought that listening to rumors and watching one workout is actual research and analysis.
If his coach was David Fizdale or Jason Kidd, things would turn out to be way different.

True lesson of don’t judge the book by it’s cover. One “GOOD” workout doesn’t mean he will be constantly good. It’s the other side of the coin, imagine all the potential NBA players who didn’t get drafted because they had a bad day and “bad” workout when scouts were watching…
It's business. Menagers must try…Do you know how many American player's were big disappointment? And who ever heard for Jokić,and Jokić is best player on the world… coming from Serbia,same as Darko…So..Darko's biggest problem was head.
He got a ring, but maybe he would have liked to be picked by a team that had a coach that could help him develop from 18 years old kid in one really,really great player.
We saw he has a moves, the ability. The coach simply didn't saw that and basically destroyed his career.

The sad truth is he got overhyped because of the rise of euro stars on the league & a few scouts who watched him against lesser talent ! When he got here y’all got to remember he was practicing against the pistons who is one of the best defensive teams in NBA history so as much as the hat is on Larry brown I’m sure he just saw him getting handles in practice being he was only 18.
This perfectly sums up the craze in the NBA about drafting unknown potential instead of just taking good players. They never seem to learn their lesson. Players that completely dominate the NCAA can be treated like an after thought if they did it a couple of years into their college career in favor of a 1 and done fast twitch rookie that shows potential.
