Four people suspected of hanging an effigy of Real Madrid player Vincius Junior off a highway bridge in Madrid in January have been arrested, Spanish police said Tuesday.

The arrests come two days after the latest case of racial abuse against the Brazil forward in a Spanish league game against Valencia.

Real Madrid have reported the racist abuse Vinicius Junior suffered at Valencia on Sunday as a hate crime, while the winger said LaLiga “belongs to the racists”.

Vinicius was targeted by chants from sections of the crowd at the Mestalla during Real Madrid’s 1-0 loss to Valencia, with the game being stopped in the second half for 10 minutes as the visibly angry 22-year-old grabbed the referee and pointed towards fans who he felt had abused him.

Vinicius was later sent off for violent conduct in added time following an altercation with striker Hugo Duro.

Mikel Arteta has apologised to Arsenal supporters after his sides disappointing loss to Brighton.

The Gunners Premier League title hopes suffered what will surely be a fatal blow on Sunday, with The Seagulls’ sensational 3-0 victory at the Emirates meaning Manchester City can be crowned champions next week.

City – who secured a comfortable win at Everton earlier in the day – will clinch a fifth title in six seasons if Arsenal lose to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Any other result in that fixture will give City the chance to seal the trophy in front of their own fans against Chelsea next Sunday.

This goes on in many leagues and some are even worse than Spain.

  3. sexybae

Any racist team with racist fans is totally a racist football club. They should pay a huge fine to FIFA for conducting criminal charges

  4. Zinios Box

La liga is done and dusted…

Fact of the matter is that it's not just in football..It's embedded within societies seeping out of sport..The Internet has become the breeding ground for this..But you know what..it's cool..Hindsight is a wonderful thing I'm glad the ignorant do not have!

  7. R Dillon

As a black man, this reminds me of why I've never thought of going to Spain.

I don't know how I feel about this. I hate that anyone this day in time would be subject to racial name calling and the such. But to arrest people for these things is imo questionable. Should these people be banned forever from these games? ABSOLUTELY! Should the club be penalized for not putting a stop to it? ABSOLUTELY! But arresting people?🫤

i don"t support rascism or anything like this but personally for 20 million a year i would not give 2 fuc*s about anyone and anything somebody says to me,he lives literally in a villa or a multi million dollar residence in the best neighbourhoods in the whole world living like kings and they can"t take abuse?
Imagine if he lived 50 years ago when rascism and these things were just completely normal (for the most part) and an everyday occurance

  14. Daniel Wanjiku

Apart frm Vini Jr, Imagine how many people around the world going through this or worse and not in a position to speak out, Vini Jr is among the lucky few ones with a platform to speak out because hes famous, rich & playing for a big team. What about the rest of unfortunate people around the world without a platform. Its a sad & hopeless situation. Im sorry to seem pessimistic but racism is not ending any time soon😔

  15. Daniel Wanjiku

Lets start boycotting league, companies, activities, organizations, or any field thats seems reluctant to curb n prevent racism. Any league that still have these issues should be given a media blackout.

  16. Michael

    Shame on you Laliga

  17. Royal Me

because Vini play for RM. If other players get booed or racially abused, nothing will happen.

Vini is drama queen and La Liga should ban him after saying Spain is a country of racists

No need to apologize mr arteta the team needs determination and consistency 😢

  22. Andre Ferguson

Arteta has nothing to apologize for…this is the most enjoyable season I've experienced as a Gooner since 2008, which played out very similarly…a young squad that took a vast leap out of nowhere and played some exceptional football with some fantastic moments. I felt that team could've pushed on and was allowed to drift away a bit…I don't expect that to happen here. But ultimately, this has been a brilliant season. I've said since November that I wasn't worried about predictions or being anxious about things and was just gonna enjoy the ride, and that's probably allowed me to be pretty even keeled about the last six weeks.

Brighton was probably the first really bad game we've had this year (although that's probably taking credit away from the Seagulls, they were superb and have had us pegged for a few years now), so it's a tough way to go out. But the highs vastly outnumber the lows, and we're still the second best team in the league behind an absolute juggernaut, as Real Madrid found out.

Hopefully it's a four or five team title race next year, as unrealistic as that might be. And hopefully we're back amongst it.

  23. MCW 👊

Shocking to even think that he’s been there 4 years he couldn’t even win a cup it’s shocking tbh 😫😂😂

  24. Aydinplaysgames89

  26. Syed Hashim Syed Moksin

whatever the outcome we have achieved a lot this season.. we played well.. we have lots of positive.. we are back to champions league next season.. we did not managed to win the league because manciti have better resources and players.. the hype of arsenal winning the league is good for this young squad to be more competitive.. its a great experience since this is one of the hardest league in the world.. just keep your head down arsenal.. keep on working hard and improve.. COYG

Every year we hear this type of apology and I am sick of it. Let’s be clear we are a bottle job period.

  32. Kumar Chandresh

    That was heartbreaking 😭

  33. Siyabonga Patrick

If we capulate like this next season then Arteta might never take us to the promise land. Maybe he is our version of rodgers

  34. Busayomi Idowu

Arteta need not apologize, the fans should be the ones apologizing, they only wanted top 4 buh he turned the team to title challengers.. As a passionate fan, I can see us back to glory days , The foundation is very solid now, we will be challenging on all fronts next season

  35. Chitalu Chishimba

As a Manchester united fan..I was hoping, Arsenal will stop man city..disappointed overall

  36. lloyd duiker

  38. Jeews Sam

Exceptional coach!!….fantastic season, Arsenal were like a Sprinter in a marathon its gonna go fast but will die down in the end. City had the resources no club can match and of course the best coach of all time with Haaland is always going to be an impossible ask

  39. Tony Zan

    This team apologises a lot…

  40. Dr. Gregory Haus

If Arsenal is considered a failure this season then clubs like Chelsea that wasted billions are just plain catastrophes.
