The Cheltenham Festival takes the spotlight on this week’s show with James Stevens, Paul Kealy and David Jennings reviewing all the big events of the week.
The panel analyse the big performances of the week from Galopin Des Champs, Ballyburn and Lossiemouth and assess their futures.
Cheltenham’s crowd dropped during the week and David and Paul share their suggestions on how to improve the meeting.
The dominance of Willie Mullins was a big talking point and David charts his rise to the pinnacle of jump racing – and what it means for the wider sport.
David, Paul and James also give their best ante-post bet for the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.

Went to Lanzarote with group for Cheltenham 600 all in 26 degrees 3 euro pints and a bookie in nearly every Irish pub couldn’t recommend anymore
I have nothing against the guy but if u wanted to some up racings problem in a nutshell it would be asking a 50+ year old man who has never heard of Craig David is why cant we create new fans. im 27 and throughout my school life and work life I have met 0 people of a comparable age who have my love of racing but I've met countless who enjoy a trip to the racing witch means the interest is there from my generation but the sport failed to hook them properly. it will be the same going forward with the generation below as well if not worse what are the 2 biggest forms of entertainment for kids YouTube and video games what is racings presence with in those spheres negligible on you tube and none existent with in video games.
O'brien been ruining The Classics for over 20 years now Mullins doing the same with Cheltenham. Obsessed with winning owners and Trainers only spells disaster for the sport. If everyone Booed when they did the presentations after , they might start to get the message!
What about a veterans race…..
24:01 cheaper to go on holiday and watch it in the sun
6 years ago we forked out for hospitality, at £320/pp, this year £670/pp!! Still enjoyable, but poor value means we'll do Goodwood, Hexham, Chester or somewhere else next year. With the lack of competitiveness in too many races means we'll NOT be going next year – and no doubt the price will be over £700.
Keals has nailed it, Corach was seriously bottomed by that run. Time will tell but for a horse that does his best stuff at the end, he was on fumes!
I never rated Mark Walsh but my goodness he's poor. That's the one thing to take out of this year's festival. Oh and another thing for those watching from afar, in almost every race the prices available off course were at least one point shorter than what was available on course. It looks like the SP result is controlled by the off course bookmakers regardless of what the ring is doing! Galopin is magnificent!
All the racing media say from the start of the NH season it's not all about chelt there are plenty of big races to win, then proceed to talk non stop about chelt for 6/7 months. Racing post 'upping the ante show' starts 4/5 months before it starts which is pointless as all the big races are won by W.Mullins and are all very short prices. The festival has massively lost it's appeal for me, this year was the worst i've seen in 30yrs not been since 2018 and i will never ago again.
They won’t make any huge changes.
If you only had 2 championship distances, Supreme and ballymore, then more horses would declare intention. No Bartlett and no turners way forward
the difference between langer dan and absurde etc is langer dan was the current holder of that race.. when you are current holder and the champ you carry top weight if not 1-2 pounds off you don't carry 11st 8 regardless of form especially when other horses carrying 12st and 11st 12 etc that have not won a race in 5-6 starts and never won at cheltenham and defo not being current champ of the race. Same way he wouldn't back Corach rambler in the national because he will be top weight as the current champ, so why does langer dan get 6 pounds off in the same scenario. It is what it is, handicaps are just legal fraud.
Skelton Skelton Skelton
Average SP of the 27 races was around 13/2 which when you take in to account winners at 33, 25, 12, 10, 8 etc doesn't exactly paint an enthralling picture for punters. The bookies have way to much sway in the sport.
I am a big NJH fan but he literally killed the festival and because his old man saved Cheltenham many years ago gets away scot free. The Sir Gino withdrawal was a complete disgrace, having told everyone the day before that all was fine. Am swerving next year.
paul kealy is right about so much great podcast
Talking about things being overpriced THE RACING POST how on earth can you justify charging those prices and why is it even more expensive on a Sunday,I was buying The Sporting Life and then The Post from early 70s started I stopped buying it in 2020,and you know it is overpriced by simply advertising about getting money off by buying it monthly/Quarterly,that paper should be no more than £2 and the reason you keep putting the prices up is because you can because you have no other racing paper to compete with when buying from the shops,we have the right first letters in rip off Britain R.O.B.
Easy solution to the problem of field sizes get it back to 3 DAYS!!!!!!!!!
Friday is a massive let down. 3 hurdle races before the Gold Cup and the Foxhunters immediately after it? That's not a final day of a festival. They could drop a day and make it a better meeting. Won't happen though, so the best we can probably hope for is some tweaks to races and maybe rearranging to give Friday a far better feel.
Have already put this on the itv you tube channel, but they have announced very solid viewing figures again this year. It's about time they got into negotiations with racing TV to show all the races. They seem to do it with Royal Ascot, which is nowhere near as exciting. If it's down to money, save some money from bringing back big brother, and rubbish like that, put it into the festival coverage.
They were very poor picks today. Must do better or it’s the snip from the boss
Pointless havin Kealy on this. He is clueless. His record proves that
notable speech had had what? 3 runs on the A.W before beating rosallion so was super fit and the race brought that into play. Rosallion will have com eon for her first run and was sharp to catch haatem, I think she runs away
From $37K to $45K that's the minimum range of profit return every week I thinks it's not a bad one for me, now I have enough to pay bills and take care of my family…
If Kealy hates Cheltenham that much why doesn’t he just stick to the flat and not work when the jumps is on?
Just watching Channel 24.
Why : why is Matt Chapman on ?
John McCririck was another Mouth but he really knew his racing and had a bit of class.
Well done to your show:
Decent Pundits!!
